Free! Winner! Complimentary! Freebie! On the house!

These are some of the most enticing words in the English language. Everyone loves a giveaway. Free things, competitions, and giveaways are all excellent ways to drive traffic to your business. They can be used to bring in new business, or entice existing customers back for repeat business.

How is it possible for a giveaway or contest to do both? We’ve put together a list of ways to show you exactly how.

Bringing in new customers.

Holding a contest is a great way to bring in new customers and drive new business to your company. There’s something exciting about the words ‘Contest’ and ‘Winner’ that the majority of people just can’t resist.

The potential for a free product from your business for one lucky winner can drive views and traffic to your site and social media and from there drive it beyond the competition page and through to the rest of your site.

Social media.

Promoting your contests through your social media channels, even hosting them through your social media, is one of the quickest ways to get as many eyes on them as possible. The key to social media contests, though, is making them unobtrusive and easy.

The potential customer needs to feel as though they’re not taking too much time and energy out of their day to enter the contest. A simple landing page (name, email, phone number, answer to a simple question) will do the trick in this case. Or, if you’re hosting directly on your social media channels, something as simple as ‘like this page, share this photo, and tell us the answer to this question’.

Using social media to drive lead generation

Click-through deals on your homepage.

I can’t stress enough how simple it can be to drive traffic to your website with the words ‘free’ or ‘giveaway’. Tweeting out ‘Head to our website for a free giveaway of our latest e-book!’ and your URL not only encourages your social media followers to head to your webpage for their freebie, it also encourages them to keep on following your accounts… just in case you host anymore giveaways.

Enticing existing customers.

Holding contests and giveaways designed specifically for people already on your contacts lists are a great way to bring back existing customers that might be considering moving onto other ventures or businesses.

The word ‘exclusive’ is almost as delightfully eye-catching as the words ‘free’, ‘giveaway’, and ‘contest’. It could be the turning point that leads an existing client back to your company rather than moving to a competitor.

Offers for attending webinars / sessions / etc.

A great way to drive your existing customers back into your arms and back onto your website is by incorporating offers into programs, webinars, and deals that your existing customers are already taking part in.

Driving Lead Generation

For example, if you mention at the start that there will be a giveaway during the webinar or video and putting a call to action at the end, then you can ask your customers to click through and claim their free giveaway for attending or watching. By doing this you’re more likely to have your customers watch your video through to the end, or stay in your webinar all the way through.

So, in that respect, a giveaway is not only a good way to bring in new leads and keep the ones you have, it’s also potentially a good way to upsell to your existing customers while they’re a ‘captive audience’ in your webinars.

Loyal customer giveaways.

Last but most definitely not least, one of the best methods of bringing back existing customers through the giveaway process is the ‘loyal customer giveaway’. Using your contacts list, you can see all of the interactions that you have made with your customers and your customers have made with you.

So, it’s in your best interests to send out communications and giveaways to select email lists of your customers every so often. For example, if you haven’t heard from customers in six months, send an email campaign with a call to action offering them the chance to download a free white paper if they come back and visit your site within ten days.

And there you have it! Just a few ways, tricks, and tips for you to try out in order to get some contests and giveaways happening on your site! Winner, winner…
